The Discard Avant Garb event last Saturday night (Sept. 10) at Grand Street Community Arts (Grand Street at Madison Avenue, Albany) was a standing-room-only success. The point of the show was to create wearable works of art from discarded materials; the proceeds went to charity. Pictured here is model Cheryl Stock in a dress designed and created by Amy Orr, one of this year’s “spotlight designers.” Titled Queen Elizabeth, the dress was fashioned from phone book pages, duct tape, tissue paper, raffia, computer keys, inflated plastic mailing wrap, mesh screen, wire, papier máché and Styrofoam packing peanuts. (Whew!) Now, that’s “trashion.”
