RED SQUARE, SATURDAY
Founding member of the Skatalites Lloyd Brevett was laid to rest in May at the age of 80, but his band lives—and plays—on (even if it is with only one original member). About half a century ago, the Skatalites were pioneers of ska, the mix of jazz, blues, and calypso that was coming out of newly independent Jamaica. Any Reel Big Fish or Big D and the Kids Table fans ought to go pay their respects to one of the bands who began it all and even recorded with Bob Marley on his first single “Simmer Down.” (June 30, 8 PM, $17-$20, Red Square, 388 Broadway, Albany, 465-0444)
