A beautiful thing happened on Nov. 21 of last year. Maybe you recall: As crazy-pants Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann walked out on the stage of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, house band the Roots scored her entrance with a few bars of uptempo ska-punk. It wasn’t until the following day that the blogosphere lit up with news of what had occurred, and drummer ?uestlove was quickly forced by NBC to apologize. The tune had been identified as “Lyin’ Ass Bitch” by legendary L.A. band Fishbone, a selection ?uestlove admitted to being more than a little bit “tongue-in-cheek.”
No doubt, Fishbone were the greatest beneficiaries of the episode. The hyperactive ska band hadn’t released a new studio record since 2006’s Still Stuck in Your Throat, but suddenly their goofy, transgressive charm had been revived without their having to lift a finger. Now, the band are back out on the road and, fittingly, they kicked off their summer touring a couple weeks back when frontman Angelo Moore served as an honorary member of the Roots during one full episode of Late Night. Michele Bachmann has declined to comment.
Paranoid Social Club and Skeletons in the Piano will open.
Fishbone will play Putnam Den (63A Putnam St., Saratoga Springs) tonight (Thursday, July 5) at 9 PM. Tickets are $12. Call 584-8066 for more info.
