Matthew E. White

by Metroland Staff on October 11, 2012

It’s easy to keep hyphenating Matthew E. White’s credentials: singer-songwriter-guitarist-composer-arranger-conducter-label founder. . . . In fact, singer-songwriter may be White’s newest credentials. His first act, avant-garde big band Fight the Big Bull launched White first into prominence as a young composer and arranger of the type once celebrated in the likes of Count Basie. It even earned his young band a collaboration for slide-trumpet legeng Steven Bernstein. But his collaborations have led him to Megafaun, Justin Vernon, Sharon Van Etten, the Mountain Goats and, no doubt, his own voice as a singer. Big Inner is his debut on his own Spacebomb records. Liv Carrow will open the show. (Oct. 12, 9 PM, $12, 405 Columbia St., Hudson, 828-4800)
