Mayer Hawthorne, Cults

by Metroland Staff on October 11, 2012

The big fall show at Skidmore has reliably become one of the season’s biggest concerts, snagging bands like TV on the Radio, Grizzly Bear, Girl Talk and Janelle Monae before the other regional venues could get at them. This time around, they seem to be courting two slightly smaller acts rather than going all-in on a show-stopper. Mayer Hawthorne is the indie mainstream’s answer to blue-eyed soul (whose gunfight breakup video for “The Walk” is a must-see), while Cults are the glockenspiel-toting indie poppers responsible for “Go Outside,” a single that has given the band well over a year’s worth of traction.
