Alsarah and the Nubatones

by Metroland Staff on November 8, 2012

The Sudanese-American singer-songwriter Alsarah, together with her band the Nubatones, have created a blend of original and traditional music combining Sudanese pop with modern soul and a bit of ’70s-era “Nubian songs of return.” Having grown up in Khartoum and Taez, Yemen, Alsarah formed the Nubatones in the summer of 2010 with Haig Manoukian, Karine Fleurima, Rami El Aasser, and Mawuena Kodjovi, adding the musics of Kenya and Zanzibar to their repertoire. If you can’t picture what it sounds like, just know it’s some funky stuff. (Nov. 10, 8 PM, $10-16, 87 Marshall St., North Adams, Mass, 413- 662-2111 )
