Marco Benevento

by Metroland Staff on November 29, 2012

At a mere 35, Marco Benevento may already qualify for veteran status in the hard-touring world of improvisational music. Since kicking down the door (and many conventions) of the jam-rock world with his organ vs. drums Benevento/Russo Duo, Marco has pushed the limits of what can be done on the periphery of jazz piano through a number of solo records, as member of Surprise Me Mr. Davis, Phish surrogate G.R.A.B., Led Zep cover act Bustle In Your Hedgerow, and a host of other collaborations. His latest, Tigerface, is a wide-grinning melange of post-rock and indie pop influences, featuring a star-studded cast of supporting musicians and his most stick-in-your-ear single yet, “Limbs of a Pine” with Rubblebucket’s Kalmia Traver.
