Your first question about this musical production of Roald Dahl’s beloved tale is probably, “Does it feature the lovely songs by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newly that were in the Gene Wilder-starring film, or the annoying Danny Elfman songs from the Johnny Depp version?”
Be assured, friends, that the Theatre Institute at Sage is using the Bricusse-Newly songs including “Candyman” and “Pure Imagination.”
This is, you may recall, the story of eccentric, reclusive candy mogul Willy Wonka, who sponsors a lottery in which a few lucky children win a tour of his bizarre factory and a heck of a lot of chocolate. This version, directed by Michael Musial, is tailored for kids from pre-K to grade 5.
Theatre Institute at Sage will present Willy Wonka the Musical from Saturday (Dec. 1) through Dec. 9 at the Schacht Fine Arts Center (Russell Sage College, 65 1st St., Troy). Performances are Saturdays and Sundays at 2 PM, with an additional performance on Dec. 7 at 7 PM. Tickets are $10 adults, $8 kids and seniors. For more info, call 244-4505.
