Ruthie Foster

by Metroland Staff on December 6, 2012

The Truth According to Ruthie Foster earned that gospel singer the honor of Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year at the 2010 Blues Music Awards (not to mention a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album). Her latest record, Let It Burn, reaffirms both of those qualifiers “best” and “contemporary.” Joining forces with legends like George Porter, Russell Batiste and the Blind Boys of Alabama to cover tunes by the likes of Adele, Crosby, Stills and Nash, and Los Lobos, Foster isn’t afraid to make her blues sound current. That, and a killer set of pipes, is the reason for all this “best” talk. (Dec. 7, 8 PM, $24, Empire State Plaza, Albany, 473-1845)
