A Far Cry

by The Staff on January 16, 2013

You can tell they’re a new kind of chamber ensemble because A Far Cry don’t have “chamber ensemble” in their name.

The 17-member, conductorless musical collective are Boston-based, but becoming world renowned. They recently completed their first European tour, and have performed with the likes of Yo-Yo Ma and Matt Haimovitz. This weekend at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, they’ll perform music of Heinrich Ignaz Biber, Arvo Pärt, Oswaldo Golijov and William Watson.

The New York Times has written that A Far Cry “brims with personality, or, better, personalities, many and varied.” In a Jan. 14 review of a performance held a few days ago, the Boston Globe wrote that A Far Cry played “with astonishing precision and unity.”

A Far Cry will perform Saturday (Jan. 19) at 8 PM at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall (2nd and State streets, Troy). Tickets are $15-$39. For more info, call 273-0038.
