Superhuman Happiness

by Metroland Staff on January 31, 2013

They combine punchy horn hits with fat, funky beats and lots of sweet synthesizer hooks that would sound at home in a cheap ’80s pop tune. They’re Superhuman Happiness—and that’s what they sound like. The band comprises multi-instrumentalist and composer Stuart Bogie plus old bandmates from Afrobeat allstars Antibalas, another one of Bogie’s projects. According to the group’s Facebook page, they “seek joy and love through shared rhythm and melody, composed and improvised . . . happiness greater than that experienced by an individual mind.” It seems the road to enlightenment might include a stop at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.
