When the Brian Brooks dance company premiered Big City, the showpiece work of Friday night’s performance at the Egg, at last spring’s Gotham Dance Festival, the critical reactions were revealing. One saw the everyday hustle and bustle of a great metropolis amid the city’s constant rebuilding/remaking process; another saw the aftermath of 9/11 and the never-ending Freedom Tower saga. The New York Times even suggested that Big City seemed to present New York after the effects of a “Northeaster,” an interpretation that seems even more intriguing post-Superstorm Sandy.
The rest of the program will include Brooks’ Descent, Motor and his solo showcase, I’m Going to Explode.
Brian Brooks Moving Company will perform tomorrow (Friday, Feb. 8) at 8 PM at the Egg (Empire State Plaza, Albany). Tickets are $24. For more info, call the box office at 473-1845.
