Last week in the Local Business Issue, we celebrated the centennials of two Capital Region restaurants, Manory’s in Troy and Jack’s in Albany. This week, right here, we’re celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Thursday Musical Club, a community women’s chorus formed a century ago in the Electric City.
This Sunday afternoon, the Thursday Musical Club will celebrate this milestone with a special concert featuring a wide variety of great music from the last 100 years, including songs and works by composers as diverse as Amy Beach, Victor Herbert, Hoagy Carmichael, Valerie Showers Crescenz, George Gershwin and Joni Mitchell.
The chorus is directed by Julie Panke and accompanied by Elinore Farnum (and guest musicians). Special guests for this performance will include NewsChannel 13’s Elaine Houston (serving as a narrator) and members of the chamber ensemble Musicians of Ma’alwyck.
Thursday Music Club will perform Sunday (April 7) at 2:30 PM at the First Reformed Church (8 N. Church St., Schenectady). Tickets are $15, $12 seniors and students. For more info, visit tmcsingers.org.
