Did you know that it’s National Poetry Month? Thom Francis and the rest of the gang at Albany Poets are celebrating in the usual fashion, with the 2013 edition of the Albany Word Fest.
The fun begins Sunday (April 14) at 6 PM at McGeary’s (4 Clinton Square, Albany), where there will be a kick-off party for the fest and the release of Up the River, Albany Poets’ new literary journal. It will be hosted by the magazine’s editors, Jill Crammond and Keith Spencer.
On Monday (April 15) there’s a Youth Open Mic at Bethlehem Children’s School (Slingerlands, 6 PM); and a Poets Against Fracking event at 8 PM at the Social Justice Center (33 Central Ave., Albany). Tuesday (April 16), there’s a special Haiku Battle at the regular Nitty Gritty Slam at Valentine’s (8 PM, $5, 17 New Scotland Ave., Albany). On Wednesday (April 17) at 7 PM, there’s a screening of the film Louder Than a Bomb at The Linda (339 Central Ave., Albany), followed by a discussion and performances.
Albany Word Fest continues through April 20, wrapping up with another slam at Valentine’s. For a complete schedule of events, prices and times, visit albanypoets.com.
