Inasmuch as winning Britain’s coveted Mercury Prize can be a huge boost to a U.K. band’s career overseas, it’s also said that a fruitless nomination can carry a curse. In 2010, Foals’ Total Life Forever was beaten out for the honor by the xx’s self-titled mega-debut. But this year’s follow-up, Holy Fire, gave the Mercury curse holy hell by registering at No. 2 on the British charts thanks to heavy riff rock.
The band currently are on tour with Florida’s Surfer Blood, who will follow up their breakout 2010 debut in June with Pythons.
Foals (pictured), Surfer Blood and Blondfire will play the Upstate Concert Hall (1208 Route 146, Clifton Park) on Monday (May 6) at 8 PM. Tickets are $20. Call 371-0012 for more info.
