George Porter Jr. and the Runnin Pardners

by Metroland Staff on June 19, 2013

George Porter Jr. is simply one of the funkiest dudes on the planet. With NO legends the Meters, he pretty much invented the genre—or at least the sensibility of that funkiest of instruments, the bass. At 65, he hasn’t slowed one syncopated step, performing with Meters incarnations for major festival stops and his solo project the Runnin Pardners in the meantime. The band feature a lineup of NO up-and-comers including saxophonist Khris Royal. They put out a record called Can’t Beat the Funk in 2011. But who would even try?
