Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott is barely 18 years old. In 1999, he was 4. Last year, the name Joey Bada$$ became synonymous with that year when the unknown rapper released his so-titled mixtape over some of that era’s most recognizable beats by MF DOOM and J Dilla. Now, the Brooklyn teen and his Pro Era crew rank among the most in-demand voices in hip-hop. As the group ready a follow-up mixtape Summer Knights for release in July, they’ve been shopping around a debut full-length called B4.Da.$$ featuring production by DJ Premier, Pete Rock and Q-Tip, legendary New York City beatsmiths who view Pro Era as the future.
Joey Bada$$’s tour stop at Upstate Concert Hall continues one of the strongest seasons of hip-hop we’ve seen in the region in ages. Supporting acts include the tripped-out duo the Underacheivers.
Joey Bada$$ will play the Upstate Concert Hall (1208 Route 146, Clifton Park) on Saturday (June 22) at 8 PM. Tickets are $22. Call 371-0012 for more info.
