The annual SPAC jazz festival has been dubbed “The Hang” and rightly so. Sure, the lineup is packed with legendary headliners and internationally significant up-and-comers, but the two-day event is best taken in at a leisurely pace, from the comfort of a lawn chair with a cold drink in hand.
On Saturday, the amphitheater will feature hard-bop piano pioneer McCoy Tyner (pictured) with John Scofield, Cuban trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, David Sanborn, Gregory Porter, Big Sam’s Funky Nation and more, while the gazebo stage will feature Gary Smulyan and others.
On Sunday, it’s Tony Bennett, Buddy Guy, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Kevin Eubanks and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band in the amphitheater, while Chris Bergson and others play the gazebo. Also, the late Dave Brubeck will receive a star on SPAC’s walk of fame.
Freihofer’s Jazz Festival comes to SPAC (Saratoga Spa State Park, Saratoga Springs) on Saturday and Sunday (June 29-30). Tickets range from $55 to $80 per day. Call 584-9330 for more info.
