The New York City Ballet and Philadelphia Orchestra will arrive at SPAC soon enough, but right now Opera Saratoga’s season is in full swing. Presenting beautifully sung and staged works in the cozy confines of the Spa Little Theater, Opera Saratoga are the true kick-off to Saratoga’s cultural season.
This year’s productions are certified crowd-pleasers: Donizetti’s tragic Lucia di Lammermoor and Gilbert and Sullivan’s ebullient H.M.S. Pinafore (pictured). Weep for Lucia through her “mad” aria; laugh for the sailors and their lovers as they negotiate romantic affairs (and tongue-twisting lyrics).
Opera Saratoga will perform Lucia di Lammermoor tonight (Thursday, June 27) and Saturday (June) 29 at 7:30 PM, and Tuesday (July 2) at 2 PM at the Spa Little Theater (Saratoga Spa State Park, Saratoga Springs). There will be additional performances July 5 at 7:30 PM and July 7 at 2 PM. They will perform H.M.S. Pinafore tomorrow (Friday, June 28) at 7:30 PM, and Sunday-Monday (June 30-July 1) at 2 PM. There will be an additional performance July 6 at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $50-$80. For more info, call the box office at 584-6018.
