Paying for live music is totally overrated—especially when there are so many great free outdoor concert series popping off this time of year. This week, the Music Haven Concert Series begins in Schenectady’s Central Park, and they’re not holding back.
Malian fingerstyle guitarist Vieux Farka Toure has been called “the Hendrix of the Sahara,” which must have made his legendary guitarist father Ali Farka Toure something like the Chuck Berry of the Sahara. Needless to say, the guy can shred in a style that sounds like the “DNA of the blues.” His new record Mon Pays, is a love letter to his home country, which has been caught in a territorial conflict between Muslims and the nomadic Taureg people since early 2012.
Vieux Farka Toure will play the Agnes MacDonald Music Haven Stage (Central Park, Schenectady) on Sunday (July 7) at 7 PM. Admission is free. Call 382-5152 for more info.
