Seeking Justice

by Erin Pihlaja on July 17, 2013

Harmony Hamilton, age 10, left, and Eli Hamilton, age 12, right, joined other Capital Region community members on Monday (June 15), at a silent vigil at the Capitol to protest the not-guilty verdict in the trial of George Zimmerman, who fatally shot unarmed Florida teenager Trayvon Martin in 2012 (see “The Suspect Is a Young Black Male,” page 8). People in cities across the country took to the streets in mostly peaceful demonstrations shortly after the verdict was announced. Activists are calling for a 100-city vigil called “Justice for Trayvon” this Saturday (July 20), urging people to congregate outside of federal court buildings at noon in an effort to push for federal charges against Zimmerman.
