Philadelphia Orchestra & Sarah Chang

by The Staff on August 15, 2013

In the second week of their summer sojourn at SPAC, the Philadelphia Orchestra will welcome violin virtuoso Sarah Chang (pictured). Tonight(Friday), Chang will be featured in a performance of Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto. If this fiery work isn’t the most popular American violin concerto, we’re stumped to name what other work is.

Also on the program: Sibelius’ majestic Scandinavian anthem Finlandia, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 3 (aka the “Polish” symphony).

On Saturday (Aug. 17) at 8 PM, the Philadelphia Orchestra will welcome pianist Jonathan Biss for a performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4, plus works by Borodin and Stravinsky (The Rite of Spring). On Wednesday (Aug. 21) at 8 PM, those “fabulous Philadelphians” will be joined by a well-known plucker for An Evening With Bela Fleck.

Gianandrea Noseda will conduct the Philadelphia Orchestra, with special guest Sarah Chang, tomorrow night (Friday, Aug. 16) at 8 PM at Saratoga Performing Arts Center (Saratoga Spa State Park, Saratoga Springs). Call the box office at 587-3330 for price and ticket information.
