Richard Buckner

by The Staff on August 28, 2013

The Half Moon, Wednesday

Ever since his 1994 debut, Richard Buckner has been hailed as one of the great songwriting descendents of Townes Van Zandt. Subsequent years found him dipping into more avant-garde terrain, collaborating with the likes of jazz guitarist Marc Ribot and Tortoise drummer John McEntire, even trading the acoustic guitar for an electronic autoharp. For a while, following 2011’s Our Blood, he considered abandoning music entirely to focus on fiction writing, yet he’s back to what he does best with the new album Surrounded. He’ll stop through Hudson on Wednesday at the reinvigorated Half Moon along with Big Search. (Sept. 4, 8 PM, $9, 48 South Front St., Hudson, thehalfmoonhudson.com)
