Big Sam’s Funky Nation may, by now, be able to count Albany’s Red Square as an outer province or colony. The trombone-driven New Orleans group have rolled through the venue enough in recent years to develop a sizable militia of funk patriots. Former member of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Sam Williams is a seasoned performer whose road resume is probably more important than his discography but, suffice to say, last year’s Funky Donkey has given the band an extra kick.
