Few in showbiz had a quicker wit than the late TV and film writer-producer Larry Gelbart. He wrote for Sid Caesar and collaborated with Woody Allen. His film comedies ranged from The Wrong Box to Tootsie. His most famous credit, however, was his work on the hit TV version of M*A*S*H.
Beginning this weekend, the Theater Barn—one of those summer companies that have a fall season—will present Gelbart’s Better Late. In this comedy, an elderly Hollywood couple’s happy retirement is interrupted by the arrival of the wife’s former husband, leading to complicated emotions—and acutely comic situations.
Better Late opens Friday (Sept. 6) and runs through Sept. 22 at the Theater Barn (654 Route 20, New Lebanon). Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM, and Sundays at 2 PM. Tickets are $24 for evening shows, and $22 for matinees. For reservations and information, call 794-8989.
