Empire State Plaza, Saturday

When it comes to merengue music, Dominican musician Toño Rosario’s (pictured) artistry and influence have been compared to Michael Jackson. The former leader of Los Hermanos Rosario has won five Grammys since that band’s debut in 1980 and has gone on to have an illustrious solo career. He’s the first solo merengue artist to sell out Madison Square Garden, and shouldn’t have any trouble packing the Empire State Plaza this Saturday for the annual Hannaford Hispanic Heritage Festival. Other performers include Toby Rivera, Grupo Encanto and DJ Boy Boy, and there will be plenty of food to round out the celebration. (Sept. 14, 3 PM, free, Madison Avenue, Albany, empirestateplaza.org)
