From Metroland world headquarters we can look across Western Avenue and see the exact spot of this Sunday’s Upper Madison Street Fair. The city will close off the block of Madison Avenue between W. Lawrence and S. Allen streets—the block bounded on the north by Steamer No. 10 Theatre, an Albany police station and a triangle-shaped park, and on the south by a half-dozen swell places to eat—and there will be a festival of family fun.
There will be food and craft vendors, dancing and drumming, plein air painting, a silent auction, a used book sale and a variety of family fun in the designated Kids Zone. There will be a Steamer No. 10 stage where the Canjo 10, Frank Jaklitsch, the Albany Swing Dancers, the Timeless Tappers and other talented artists will perform. In other words, there is something for everyone.
The Upper Madison Street Fair will be held Sunday (Sept. 22) from noon-5 PM on Madison Avenue between S. Allen and W. Lawrence streets (Albany). Admission is free. For more info, visit uppermadison.org.
