According to the gallery notes, “Charlotta Westergren’s paintings draw on old master techniques to evoke deep emotional responses.” Having seen a preview of a few of the works in the show, we heartily agree: The Swedish-born, New York City-based Westergren’s work packs an emotional wallop.
We could go on and describe the almost photo-realist paintings (only almost), but you really need to check them out at the Esther Massry Gallery.
Charlotta Westergren: Progeny opens tomorrow (Friday, Oct. 18) with a reception from 5 to 7 PM at the Esther Massry Gallery (Massry Center for the Arts, 1002 Madison Ave., Albany). The reception will be followed by an artist lecture at 7 PM in the Saint Joseph Auditorium (College of Saint Rose, 985 Madison Ave., Albany.) The exhibit will remain on view through Dec. 8.
