OK, so it hasn’t altogther gone away, but the genre of electronic dance music that rose to such commercial prevalence in 2011 has more or less disappeared (along with relatives moombahton, trap and electro) into that catch-all banner EDM. Now, we could argue with you about how authentic British dubstep never really made it to American shores and how brostep musicians like Skrillex and Datsik have very little in common with originators like Burial and Skream. But that kind of thing is for the head and this kind of stuff is for the body.
UK dubstep producer Rusko has roots that stretch back to the form’s origins in the London club scene, even while his sound has picked up an L.A. appeal thanks to Diplo’s Mad Decent record label. This year, Rusko joined Skrillex’s OWSLA label for the Kapow EP.
Rusko will play the Upstate Concert Hall (1208 Route 146, Clifton Park) on Monday (Oct. 21) at 8 PM. Tickets are $30. Call 371-0012 for more info.
