Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews has come a long way since his major-label debut in 2010. Standout sets on the festival circuit catapulted the New Orleans funkateer to the cover of Downbeat and a fleet of late-night TV appearances. It also earned him a Grammy nomination.
Two records later, the 28-year-old is one of his city’s biggest cultural exports, dealing in high-energy “supafunkrock.” His new record Say That to Say This received an extra dose of soul from co-producer Raphael Saadiq.
Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue will play the Egg (Empire State Plaza, Albany) on Sunday (Jan. 12) at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $29.50-$39.50. Call 473-1845 for more info.
