Basilica Hudson normally restricts its programming to the warmer months, but this weekend there will be an exception for Nous, the inaugural public performance of a new group featuring composer Christopher Bono. The nine-piece group will be joined by three dancers to perform work that explores collective ritual and improvisation.
As Bono says, “Nous aspires to bypass the lower level thought patterns of the egotistical mind and encourages the connection of those involved to reach a higher level of consciousness, providing a creative space where intuitive, unexpected, and unexplained results can occur.”
Bono is used to working in the space between contemporary artmaking and Eastern spiritual tradition, having recently arranged the Buddhist Heart Sutra for choral group. Nous will have just finished recording the project at Woodstock’s Dreamland Recording Studio in advance of the show.
Nous will perform at Basilica Hudson (110 S. Front St., Hudson) on Saturday (Feb. 1) at 8 PM. Tickets are $20. Call 822-1050 for more info.
