Winston Rodney is 68 years old and has been making roots reggae music since 1973. Born in Saint Ann, Jamaica, the home of Bob Marley, Rodney’s reggae and Rasta pedigree runs about as deep as it can. While Jamaican music has largely become fodder for the dancehall and soundsystem, Rodney has always been an ardent practitioner of that rocksteady skank that made the genre famous to begin with. And over 28 studio albums, he continues to use the style as a vehicle for the Pan-African messages of Marcus Garvey.
Burning Spear will play MASS MoCA (87 Marshall St., North Adams, Mass.) on Saturday (Feb. 15) at 8 PM. Tickets are $27. Call 413-662-2111 for more info.
