A mix of world premieres and encores of documentary and narrative films will make up the program of Youth FX movies being screened tonight (Thursday) at the Spectrum 8 Theatres. The filmmakers are all Albany teenagers enrolled in the ongoing—and hugely successful—Youth FX program at Grand Street Community Arts, and the topics range from food justice, identity, violence, video gaming and youth boxing.
Youth FX founder and director Bhawin Suchak says the quality of the films is directly connected to the artistic freedom given the filmmakers: “My role is to provide the training along with access to the tools of production, and then I get out of the way and let them create.”
This just in, from program director Suchak: “We also just found out one of our films, Inside the Ring (which will shown on Thursday) was selected to screen at the 57th annual San Francisco Film Festival in early May, which is the biggest festival we have ever been selected to screen at!”
The Youth FX Film Screening will be held tonight (Thursday, March 16) at 6:30 PM at the Spectrum 8 Theatres (290 Delaware Ave., Albany). Tickets are $10, $7 students. For more info, call 449-8995.
