Luisa Maita

by The Staff on March 27, 2014

Sanctuary for Independent Media, Sunday

A native of São Paulo, Brazilian singer Luisa Maita draws inspiration from the city’s urban lifestyle and culture. Her soulful, smooth songs are a result of her influences from jazz, pop and funk. Maita was born into a musical family and has been singing since she was 7 years old. Now, years later and after a well-received debut album in 2010, NPR has dubbed her “the new voice of Brazil” and praises her “liquid velvet voice” as it brings forth a new sound in modern Brazilian music.
