Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers with Edie Brickell

The banjo is a pretty funny instrument. But the guy playing it Friday night is even more so.

Steve Martin is, of course, known best for his decades of standup comedy, SNL appearances, film roles, writing and screenplays. But the five-string banjo was one of his first loves and has become one of his most reliable late-career vehicles. When he’s playing music, it’s with the Steep Canyon Rangers, the Grammy-winning North Carolina bluegrass band. For recent tours, they’ve even added former New Bohemian Edie Brickell to the mix. This March, they released a live record of the full band.

Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers will play the Palace Theatre (19 Clinton Ave., Albany) tomorrow (Friday, June 20) at 8 PM. Tickets are $39.50-$79.50. Call 465-3334 for more info.
