BardSummerscape always takes its theme from the Bard Music Festival. This year the latter is Schubert and His World, so the former explores all manner of romanticism. This year’s world-premiere play is an English language adaptation of Panthesilea by German poet (and Schubert contemporary) Heinrich von Kleist.
It concerns the collision between the titular queen of the Amazons and Achilles; there is stubbornness and love in a “tragicomedy . . . that threatens to derail the course of history.”
Love in the Wars previews tonight and tomorrow night (Thursday and Friday, July 10 and 11) at 7:30 PM and opens Saturday (July 12) at 7:30 PM at the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts (Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson). The show runs through July 20, with another performance this week on Wednesday (July 16) at 2 PM. Tickets are $25-$50.
