Bruno Mars has done his homework. The industry’s 13th-richest musician didn’t get to become the sensation he is on good luck and gimmicks. He’s studied the greats—Michael Jackson, Prince, James Brown—and he’s got the vocal range, dance steps, guitar chops and pop hits to back that hefty paycheck.
Starting out as a songwriter—who lent his pen to hits like CeeLo Green’s “Fuck You”—he released his first record Doo-Wop and Hooligans in 2010 and promptly received seven Grammy nominations. He followed it up in 2012 with the blockbuster Unorthodox Jukebox, featuring the undeniable sex anthem “Gorilla.” Rolling Stone has said of his current Moonshine Jungle World Tour that “anyone from the age of 5 to 95 can walk out of a Bruno Mars concert feeling like the show was designed just for them.”
Bruno Mars will play the Times Union Center (51 S. Pearl St., Albany) on Sunday (July 20) at 8 PM. Tickets are $43 to $102.50. Call 487-2000 for more info.
