Jacks Grill, Main Street, Housatonic, Mass., (413) 274-1000. Old-fashioned comfort food such as meat loaf, pot roast and spaghetti in homey surroundings in a sleepy (and lately artsy) Berkshire hamlet. Affordable, and all the more so if you order the $34 family-style dinner for four. Serving dinner Sun-Mon and Wed-Thu 5-9, Fri-Sat 5-10; brunch Sun 11-2. AE, MC, V.

Hattie’s, 45 Phila St., Saratoga Springs, 584-4790. The classic fried chick’en—along with a menu of gumbo, jambalaya, ribs and more—offered in the refurbished but nostalgic place that’s been at the same location for nearly 40 years. Serving daily through the summer 5-10, then Wed-Sun 5-10. Buffet night Tuesday. AE, DC, MC, V.

Fortune’s, Saratoga Gaming and Raceway, Crescent Avenue, Saratoga Springs, 581-5790. Order off the menu, which offers original takes on continental favorites, or visit the well-stocked buffet in this newly revamped fine-dining facility. Serving dinner Tue-Fri 5-10, Sat 3-5. AE, MC, V.

Mama’s Family Restaurant, Routes 146 & 146A, Clifton Park, 371-7313. A long-thriving middle-of-the-road pizza restaurant with good, low-priced entrées and a salad bar as well. You can dine here on any budget. Serving Sun noon-9, Mon 11-9, Tue-Thu 11-10, Fri 11-11, Sat 11-10. AE, D, MC, V.

Justin’s, 301 Lark St., Albany, 436-7008. The Lark Street stalwart, now under the assured ownership of John DeJohn, continues to offer some of the city’s best dining, with signature dishes like jerk chicken intact. Serving lunch Mon-Sat 11:30-4, dinner Sun-Thu 5-10, Fri-Sat 5-10:30, brunch Sat-Sun 11-4. AE, DC, MC, V.

The Bear’s Steakhouse, Route 7, Duanesburg, 895-2509. Quite simply, the ne plus ultra of area steakhouses, where the excellent food is matched by exemplary service. Serving dinner Wed-Fri 5:30-8, Sat seatings at 5:30 and 8:30. MC, V.

Anatolia, 880 2nd Ave. (at 125th Street), Troy, 237-8888. Classic Turkish- Mediterranean fare, including falafel, gyros and kabobs of all kinds as well as pizza and wings and Italian dinners. Serving daily 11-10. MC, V

JG Roman Villa, 61 Duanesburg Road (Route 7), Schenectady, 355-2090. A neighborhood Italian restaurant doing well by its neighbors with traditional fare, great pizza, and nightly specials. Serving dinner daily 4-10. MC, V.

New World Home Cooking Co., 1411 Route 212, Saugerties, (845) 246-0900. Ric Orlando’s excellent, innovative eatery endures in its eighth year at the Saugerties spot, offering boldly flavored crap-free food that sets a new standard in casually fine dining. Serving lunch Sat noon-3, Sun 11-2:30, dinner Mon-Sat 5-11, Sun 4-10. AE, D, DC, MC, V.
