Forno Toscano Bistro, 541 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, 581-2401. Personal pizzas emerge from the wood-fired oven; salads, pasta dishes (the carbonara is especially good) and some traditional meaty entrées define this handsome eatery’s Tuscan style. Serving lunch Mon-Fri 11:30-3, dinner Mon-Sat 5-9:30. AE, MC, V.

Angelo’s 677 Prime, 677 Broadway, Albany, 427-7463. Steak is the specialty here, with a half-dozen or so cuts to choose from—and they take it very seriously. Also seafood, veal, gourmet pizzas and salads, an enticing assortment of starters and a la carte sides, and sinful desserts. Serving lunch 11:30-2 Mon-Fri; dinner 5-10 Mon-Sat; bar menu 2-10 Mon-Sat. Santino’s Italian-American Restaurant, 183 Troy Schenectady Road, Latham, 220-9900. Friendly, accommodating place for classic fare, with good veal and seafood dishes among the many entrées and a lighter sandwich menu as well. Serving dinner Tue-Thu, Sun 3-10, Fri-Sat 3-11. AE, D, DC, MC, V.

The Water’s Edge Lighthouse, 2 Freeman’s Bridge Road, Scotia, 370-5300. Classic Italian dining with continental side notes, with lots of good seafood and steaks. A light fare menu is available as well. Serving light fare daily 11 AM-midnight, dinner daily 5-10. AE, MC, V.

Karavalli, 9B Johnson Road (Route 9R), Latham, 785-7600. Not your usual Indian fare. Here you’ll find dishes from all over the country, all of it sparkling with flavor, in a friendly and comfortable setting. Serving lunch Mon-Fri 11:30-2:30, dinner Sun-Thu 5-10, Fri-Sat 5-11, brunch Sat-Sun noon-2. AE, MC, V.

The Whistling Kettle, 24 Front St., Ballston Spa, 884-2664. Tea—more than 80 varieties of loose tea in all colors and flavors—with a menu of salads, panini, scones, cakes, and more, including a classic high tea menu. And it’s a handsome, relaxing place. Serving Sun-Mon 11-5, Tue-Wed 11-6, Thu-Sat 11-7. AE, D, MC, V.

The Hidden Café, Delaware Plaza, 180 Delaware Ave., Delmar, 439-8800. Fine continental cuisine with a Mediterranean flavor, served in a comfortable if out-of-the-way setting. Serving Tue-Sat 11-3, 4:30-9. MC, V.

Lorenzo’s, 1733 Van Vranken Ave., Schenectady, 370-5455. Chef-owner Daniel DeLorenzo gives an upscale spin to Italian cookery right in the heart of Schenectady’s Italian-restaurant district. Try the Veal DeLorenzo or any of the wonderful pasta dishes. Serving Sun, Tue-Thu 5-10, Fri-Sat 5-11. AE, MC, V.

First Choice Caribbean American Cuisine, 451 Fulton St., Troy, 272-4544. Jerk or curried chicken, Jamaican pepper steak, callaloo—it’s the real thing here, with a bargain ($5.50) lunch buffet to boot. Serving lunch Mon-Fri 11:30-2, dinner Mon-Sat 11-9. MC, V.
