Tuscan’s Grill, Parkwood Plaza, 1760 Route 9, Clifton Park, 371-5672. Imaginative versions of Italian classics along with a menu of steaks and seafood. Excellent veal dishes, among many others. Serving lunch Mon-Fri 11:30-2:30, dinner Mon-Thu 4-10, Fri 4-11, Sat 2-11, Sun 1-9. AE, MC, V.

The Londonderry Café, Stuyvesant Plaza, Albany, 489-4288. A varied menu of inventive continental items is offered, with sandwiches galore for lunch and dinner entrées that include many seafood specials. Dine outside when the weather is good. Serving lunch daily 11-4, dinner daily 4:30-9, brunch Sunday 10:30-3. AE, D, DC, MC, V.

Rita’s Lebanese Café, 188 N. Allen St., Albany, 437-3537. A concise menu of compelling Lebanese fare, with hummus and falafel alongside more enterprising dishes like kibbeh sineyeh. Serving Tue-Wed 11-6, Thu-Sat 11-9. AE, D, MC, V.

The Washington Tavern, 250 Western Ave., Albany, 427-0091. Classic pub fare served in a newly refurbished mainstay of Albany’s uptown area. This is the place for a burger and beer. Serving daily 11:30 AM-1 AM. AE, MC, V.

Trattoria Rustica, 26 McKay St., Pittsfield, Mass., (413) 499-1192. Chef-owner Davide Manzo explores the flavors of ancient Italian cooking with a big brick oven as his principal tool. Excellent pasta, superb roasts and a wonderful atmosphere. Serving dinner Wed-Mon 5-9. AE, D, MC, V.

El Mariachi III, 2955 Route 9, Ballston Spa, 581-5901. A generous menu of Mexican fare that goes beyond burritos by offering mole poblano, pipian de pollo, and much in the way of Spanish fare. Serving Mon-Fri 11:30-10, Sat 3-10, Sun 4-10. AE, MC, V.

Chez Sophie, the Saratoga Hotel, 534 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, 583-3538. The best restaurant in the Saratoga area is now moved to downtown, in a beautiful custom-built space where owners Paul Parker and Cheryl Clark offer fabulous dining. Serving breakfast Mon-Fri 7-10:30, lunch Mon-Fri noon-2, dinner nightly 5-11, brunch Sun 10-2. AE, D, MC, V.

Gotchya’s Trattoria, 68 Beekman St., Saratoga Springs, 584-5772. Enjoy chef Dominic Colose’s homemade pasta and a menu of Tuscan-inspired meals of which the excellent porcetta is but one example. Serving dinner Tue-Sat 5-10. AE, MC, V.

Hobson’s Choice, 159 Water St., Williamstown, Mass., (413) 458-9101. A rustic-looking dining with an open kitchen, salad bar, and a menu of excellent preparations of traditional fare, with beef and chicken and seafood the stars. Serving dinner nightly from 5 PM. AE, D, MC, V.
