BORN
TO ROCK Stuck
on Stupid, a rock band of young teenagers
from Scotia, are making waves on national TV.
CBS’s The Early Show has a feature
called “Living Room . . . Live! Kids Edition!”
in which talented kids compete against each other
over a series of weeks. Stuck on Stupid—made up
of bass player Adam Albright, 14; guitarist and
lead vocalist, Dominic Brino, 14; and Garrett
Damore, 13—competed against two other kids’ acts
in the first week of the competition. They performed
an original song, “Used,” and they won the first
round with 39 percent of the viewer’s votes. They’ll
battle other favorites from upcoming weeks in
the first finalist round. Check cbsnews.com for
more information. Catch the band when they perform
at Schenectady County Community College’s Midwinter
Music Festival on Jan. 6 and 13. Proceeds from
the music festival will benefit Noteworthy Kidz.

LEARN
TO DRUM LIKE BITTNER! Shadows Fall
have been busy finishing their latest album, Fallout
From the War, due out in the spring or
summer of 2007, and they’ve been planning a full-fledged
tour to immediately follow. In the meantime, Shadows
Fall drummer and Albany native Jason Bittner
has done a bang-up job of cashing in on the popularity
of the band in recent years—the Berklee College
of Music graduate has been interviewed in all
sorts of music magazines, he’s performed at a
plethora of drum clinics around the globe, and
he won Best Drummer this year for the second year
in a row in the Modern Drummer Reader’s
Poll. He even has a drumstick named after him
(the Jason Bittner Signature model 5BX by Pro-Mark).
Bittner has made a name for himself not only as
a terrific drummer, but as an reputable drum-clinician.
His latest foray into the world of drumming education
comes in the form of a book. Due to be released
in January, Out of the Shadows: The Drumming
of Jason Bittner and Shadows Fall will
include full transcription charts for songs from
Shadows Fall’s collection of albums, including
War Within, Art of Balance and
Fallout. Included with the book will also
be a play-along CD for War Within. For
more information about Jason Bittner, visit his
Web site at www.jasonbittner.com.
FUNNY
GIRL We’re not the only ones who think Capital
Region artist-comedienne Laura Roth (pictured)is
a hilarious firecracker of a performer. Roth,
who regularly tours the Northeast with the political-comedy
group Only in New York (OiNK), has been experiencing
success with her solo show in Atlantic City of
late. Last week, she performed two shows on consecutive
nights in front of 2,000 people at the Atlantic
City Hilton Casino Resort. According to her press
release, her “one-woman Christmas shows drew such
large audiences that Hilton management intends
to simultaneously video her next shows live and
project them on large screens on both sides of
the stage.” Roth, who is also known for her impersonations
of everyone from Betty Boop to Judy Garland and
Dolly Parton to Shirley Temple, has been called
“a show stopper” by the New York Post.
