Fancy a nice Mercedes-Benz? Have a hankering to see a Horch?
How about a Porsche, or an Audi, or the quintessential “people’s
car,” the Volkswagen? Well, the Mercedes-Benz Club of America
Hudson-Mohawk Section and the Saratoga Automobile Museum
are teaming up to showcase a multitude of German-made cars
on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 9 AM to 3 PM. Admission to the big
German Motorfest will be $8 for adults, $5 for seniors

TROY’S
MOST FAMOUS MADAME, ER, MADAM: This Wednesday (Aug. 15),
the good folks at the Sanctuary for Independent Media
(3361 6th Ave., Troy) invite you to celebrate the 141st birthday
of Troy’s legendary madam, Mame Faye, with a “preview”
screening of the documentary Sittin’ on a Million.
Filmmakers Penny Lane and Annmarie Lanesey have
been researching the elusive Faye for a year; it hasn’t been
easy, explained Lane in a recent phone interview.
“She
was a very famous woman, but her story has been completely
undocumented,” said Lane. “We’re 20 years too late to get
really solid info,” she lamented, as the people who new Faye
in her prime have all passed away. Then, there is the problem
of the few people left with any connection not wanting to
be publicly associated with the subject, prostitution: “We
got a lot of stories from people who didn’t want to be in
the movie,” Lane said.
What they did get—by placing ads in the local Pennysaver
and posting fliers around Troy—is interesting and fun, Lane
promised. And you can check out Sittin’ on a Million
for a mere $10 donation at 7 PM Wednesday. Oh, and there’s
this: Lane also promised that some exotic 19th-century methods
of air conditioning will be employed—you know, blocks of ice.

IN A DIGITAL AGE: Composer Tom Savoy and lyricist
Byron Nilsson (aka B.A. Nilsson, Metroland music/food
critic and man about town) will premiere their new one-act
musical iFind You @ Last this Saturday (Aug.
11) at 7 PM at the Glen Reformed Church (Route 161,
Glen). The songs, according to longtime musical-theater collaborators
Savoy and Nilsson, will be “both funny and endearing,” and
were tailored specifically for the performers, Shannon

SHORT
FILMS IN TROY: The Troy Cinema and Visual Arts Group
will present a Short Film and Video Mini Festival this
Wednesday (Aug. 15) at the Arts Center of the Capital Region
(265 River St., Troy) at 7 PM. The local filmmakers who will
be showcased include Jeff Burns, Gene Greger,
Shawn Lawson, Andrea Poley and Brett Parker;
all of the filmmakers will be on hand for a post- screening
