Chianti il Ristoranti, 208 South Broadway, Saratoga Springs, 580-0025. An inventive menu of northern Italian fare from chef Fabrizio Bazzani, presented in David Zecchini’s handsome dining rooms. Serving dinner daily from 5:30. AE, D, MC, V.

The Rose and Kettle, 4 Lancaster St., Cherry Valley, (607) 264-3078. Outstanding food and service in a hundred-year-old house in the midst of a storybook village, featuring a changing menu of locally obtained meats and produce. Serving Thu-Mon 5-9 until September, then Fri-Sat 5-9, Sun 5-8. AE, MC. V.

Cantina, 430 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, 587-5577. A more intimate Mexican-inspired menu served in a classic downtown space, with fresh produce, organic meat, and homemade tortillas among the attractions. And lots of tequila. Serving lunch Tue-Sun 11:30-2:30, dinner daily 5-10. AE, MC, V.

Vico Restaurant & Bar, 136 Warren St., Hudson, 828-6529. Tuscan-inspired dining, the legacy of chef-owner Mark Ganem’s time in Italy. Warm ambiance, excellent pasta and a killer bistecca Fiorentina. Serving lunch Mon, Wed-Thu noon-2, Fri-Sun noon-5, dinner Mon, Wed- Thu, Sun 5-9:30, Fri-Sat 5-10. Sunday brunch 11-2. AE, MC, V.

Moon & River Café, 115 S. Ferry St., Schenectady, 382-1938. A lively gathering place with a menu of mostly vegetarian fare, featuring sandwiches, salads and innovative entrées—including many Mexican dishes. Serving daily 9 AM-11 PM. Cash only.

Karavalli, Quality Inn, 2788 Hamburg St., Rotterdam, 355-9495. A new location for this impressive restaurant, offering a wider-than-usual variety of Indian fare, a nice weekday lunch buffet, and a more lavish buffet on weekends. Serving lunch Tue-Fri 11:30-2:30; dinner Sun, Tue-Thu 5-9:30, Fri-Sat 5-10; brunch Sat-Sun noon-3. AE, D, MC, V.

Charlie’s Restaurant, Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort, 150 Main St., Lake Placid, 523-9886. Fine dining overlooking Mirror Lake, with an inspired menu of locally sourced produce and organic meat and poultry. Pan-seared scallops and marinated duck breast are among the excellent entrées. Serving breakfast daily 6:30-11:30, lunch daily noon-2:30, dinner daily 5-10, light menu also available. AE, D, MC, V.

Midtown Tap & Tea Room, 289 New Scotland Ave., Albany, 435-0202. An inventive array of tapas, soup and salad to accompany a good wine list, lots of fancy tea or whatever beverage you fancy, served in handsomely appointed rooms. Serving Tue-Sat 11-11, Sun 11-6. AE, D, MC, V.
