Barrington Brewery & Restaurant, Jenifer House Commons, 420 Stockbridge Road, Great Barrington, Mass., (413) 528-8282. Owner Gary Happ offers classic pub fare in a pleasantly rustic setting. Soups, desserts and many other items are made from scratch. House-brewed ales are a must. Serving 11:30 to 9:30 Sun-Thu; 11:30-10 Fri-Sat. D, MC, V.

My Way Café, Routes 9 and 67E, Malta, 899-4196, Chef-owner John Bove celebrates a quarter century at this Saratoga-area gem, where the Italian specialties range from a perfect pasta carbonara to excellent Tuscan-style grilled sirloin. Serving daily 4-close during racing season; Tue-Sun 4-close otherwise. AE, D, MC, V.

Madalin’s Table, 53 Broadway, Tivoli, (845) 757-2100. Chef Brian Kaywork does virtuoso work with local ingredients at this elegant but casual hotel, where the people watching can be as intriguing as dinner itself. Serving dinner Wed-Sun from 5 until closing. AE, MC, V.

Big steaks and seafood are the watchword here, in a handsome dining room or overlooking the golf course on the veranda.
