TAKE
A STROLL Saturday (Sept. 26) is the 50th Stockade Walkabout,
in that beautiful and historic Schenectady neighborhood. Tour
historic homes and churches, enjoy historic re-creations (some
folks from the neighborhood will be dressed as historic personages),
dig live musical entertainment and take a horse-drawn carriage
ride. The fun is from 10 AM-5 PM. Call 374-0263 for ticket
and price information; visit stock adewalkabout.com for photos
and videos of past celebrations.
NOT SO DEPRESSING The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute’s
(Williams town, Mass.) new Manton curator of prints, drawings,
and photographs, Jay Clarke, will lecture this Sunday
(Sept. 27) at 3 PM on the life and art of Edvard Munch. Clarke,
who curated the Becoming Edvard Munch exhibit at the
Art Institute of Chicago, will talk on “Questioning Munch’s
Madness.” She will discuss Munch’s lesser-known, more “celebratory”
works in an attempt to give a more balanced—and less dark—view
of the artist. For more info, visit clarkart.edu or call (413)
458-2303.
HAPPY
ANNIVERSARY Congratulations to the folks who put on the Big
Bamboo Room Burlesque, because this Monday’s (Sept. 28)
performances at Savannah’s/Dublin Underground (1 S. Pearl
St., Albany) will celebrate five years of bringing vaudeville
back from the dead, one month at a time. Host Guy Smiley will
introduce such wild and wonderful acts as strip-teaser Scooter
Pie, the exotic Bella Vendetta, magician Jeffrey Jene, Maxine
de la Obscene and, direct from L.A., Samra. Shows are at 8
and 10 PM. Admission is $5.
STRANGER THAN FICTION Stranger than strange, indeed. Just
down the block from the Bing Bamboo Room shenanigans, the
WWE returns to the Times Union Center on Monday evening
for a live broadcast of the hit USA cable show Monday Night
Raw. You know what that means: some awesome wrestling.
You know what else? The special guest host for the show is
the Rev. Al Sharpton. The good reverend will appear
to “raise awareness for . . . his campaign to improve our
schools.” Amazing, yes? Tickets are going fast, so call the
TUC at 487-2000 right now for prices and availability.
