New World Bistro Bar, 300 Delaware Ave., Albany, 694-0520, new Chef Ric Orlando’s unique brand of fusion fare livens a comfortable eatery, offering tapas to full meals, with Caribbean-, Indian- and Asian-inspired fare. Serving dinner 5-9 Sun-Thu, 5-11 Fri-Sat; brunch 10-2 Sun; tapas 3-5 Sun. AE, D, MC, V.

McGeary’s, 4 Clinton Ave., Albany, 463-1455, Burgers and wings, lots of salads and other sandwiches in a newly refurbished setting, with Tess Collins as your indefatigable hostess. Serving daily 11-11. AE, D, MC, V.

Orchid’s Jamaican-American Restaurant, 1305 Altamont Ave., Schenectady, 952-7182. Traditional fare like oxtail, curried goat and fabulous jerk chicken, served from a tiny takeout place with only two tables. Serving 11-9 Mon-Sat. Cash only (credit cards to come).

Jitters Café, 418 Geyser Road (Country Club Plaza), Ballston Spa, 584-2340. A creative array of sandwiches and wraps, gourmet coffee and house-blended tea and terrific pastries and desserts in a music-friendly storefront. Serving 8 AM-9 PM Mon-Sat, 8 AM-7 PM Sun. AE, D, MC, V.

El Mexicano, 208 South Broadway, Saratoga Springs, 226-0105, elmexicano Traditional Mexican fare and a few surprises, like a great mole, from the Vazquez family, of which wall-mural artist Gabino is part. Serving lunch 11-3 daily, dinner 3-10 daily. AE, D, DC, MC, V.
