LIVE
MUSIC GOES PERFECT WITH BEER . . . AND BURRITOS Another
music venue is always a very welcome thing. Bombers’ Bar
(258 Lark St., Albany) has recently introduced their Sunday
night Unstuffed Music Series. The large room in the upstairs
bar has proven to be a wonderfully intimate setting, the perfect
atmosphere for some serious listening. So far, musicians who
have played as a part of this series include the likes of
knotworking, the Sifters, Eric Halder, and Pocket Protector,
just to name a few; upcoming shows will feature Katie Haverly,
Kitty Little, Bryan Thomas, Rob Skane
and more. This Sunday, Moxxie will take the window
stage. Check the listings in the back of this paper to keep
on top of things. For information and booking details, e-mail
cantusrecords@hotmail.com.

SOULED
OUT On Leap Day (Feb. 29) local soul rocker and new daddy
Bryan Thomas released his new CD, Babylon, a
testament of his very personal feelings about our government,
our country, our country’s war in Iraq, and other political
issues. Thomas calls it “a love song to America. . . . But
not the blind love that’s been going around of late. This
is something deeper. This is seven songs of tough love.” The
entire album was recorded live to tape in a single day at
Silverstone Studios in Saratoga Springs with Thomas on guitar
and vocals, and some local VIPs providing back-up, like Matthew
Loiacono, who provides percussion, and Bob Buckley
on bass (both of Kamikaze Hearts). Additional guitars were
added to some of the tracks later on. Larry DeVivo and Scott
Benson engineered and mixed the album. You’re gonna have to
be patient to get your hands on a copy, though; Babylon
is sold out. However, there should be some more available
by the end of the week. Go to www.cdbaby.com to be notified
when it’s back in stock.
CHANGING
OF THE GUARDS The Sifters have given up their role as
ambassadors of the Lionheart’s (448 Madison Ave., Albany)
Monday Night Music Series, but fear not. Local singer-songwriter
Sean Rowe has stepped up to the plate to take over
the live-music night. He will perform regularly, with special
guests every week. For more information, call the bar at 436-9530.
SHOWERED
WITH DIAMONDS Spring is here, and record-making is in
the air. Troy-based Denim & Diamonds (made up of
Jason Martin, Chris Skinner and Tyler Jacobsen)
have been busy in the studio for a while. The fruit of their
efforts will come in the form of an EP called Street Medics
Unite!, which will be released soon (we know, that’s vague—we
would tell you when if we knew) on Bloodlink Records out of
Philadelphia. The CD, which was mixed and mastered at Jason
Martin’s analog recording studio in Troy, Magic Recording
Eye Studio, has music videos for three of the songs, as well.
As if a brand-new EP wasn’t enough, the band will also release
a seven-inch split on Asking For Trouble Records out of Glasgow,
Scotland, and yet another seven-inch single for “The Cyborg
Manifesto” on Televaw Records in Troy. There is actually a
contest going on at www.blood link.com, challenging amateur
cinematographers to come up with no/low-budget music videos
for D&D’s songs. There are directions on the site, and
the deadline is April 10. Keep an eye out for these hard-working
fellas; they will tour the East coast in April and May in
support of their new releases.
I
HEART YOU Americana rockers the Kamikaze Hearts
are working to release their new EP, The Foxhole
Prayers. The release is set for mid-April, and you’ll
know when it drops, because the Hearts will start playing
around like madmen to celebrate it. To remain up-to-the-minute-in-the-know,
you can also visit their Web site, www.kamikazehearts.com,
and sign up on their mailing list. You can hear clips from
the release there, too. Catch their first local show in quite
some time when they play the Lark Tavern (453 Madison Ave.,
Albany) on Saturday, March 20.
