What
a terrific article on the issue of same-sex marriage! [“First
Comes Love, Then Comes . . . ,” April 8] Thank you for informing
your readers about the impact this issue has on so many lives.
I am also proud to share with Metroland and its readers
the news that the Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood Board of
Directors, at their most recent meeting, unanimously passed
a “statement of opposition to the Federal Marriage Amendment.”
The Board resolution stated clearly the support of our agency
for “the right to reproductive and sexual self-determination
for all people and . . . policies that guarantee the essential
right to privacy of all individuals regardless of their sexual
orientation.”
The UHPP Board is made up of 21 volunteers from Albany, Columbia
and Rensselaer counties. As UHPP President/CEO, I can say
with confidence that our staff fully supports the conviction
of the Board that we must speak out against discrimination,
harassment and scapegoating of sexual minorities, and that
we must stand up for the rights of all individuals to make
personal, private decisions about reproduction and sexuality.

In

names of newlywed women in a photo of them walking down the
aisle. Properly identified, they are (l-r) Lynne Lekakis and
Elissa Kane.
