The
Fruits of Zionism
To
the Editor:
Rick
Perlstein’s “In Line for the Rapture” [June 3] ultimately
explains the principal reason for the terrorist attacks of
9/11/01 in the first place: American support of a Zionist
Israel, with all other commonly heard reasons like “envy over
America’s wealth” and “disgust for America’s licentiousness”
so minimal by comparison as to be insignificant.
This is a principled, not anti-Semitic statement, as I am
proudly Italian- American. Yet if present-day Italy embarked
on a crusade to conquer and colonize a “modern day” Ethiopia,
I would nonetheless vehemently oppose U.S. aid . . . even
despite the fact that a paternal great uncle of mine served
as an officer under Benito Mussolini.
American Jews and “Christian Zionists” alike should consider
themselves “Americans” first and any and all ancient religious
texts secondary. This is not only the American way, but ultimately
the only way to keep various Arabic, Persian, and Islamic
nations from regarding us as the “Great Satan.”

Bare
Is Better
To
The Editor:
Sexual
open-mindedness was at its peak in the late 1960s or 1970s.
The Woodstock Days are long gone. The local mainstay newspapers
only refer to sex pertaining to crime. They never write about
the many different sexual appetites of humans or how they
are played out in the Capital District.
Your explicit May 20 article [“Who Will Speak for Bare Ass
Beach?”] should be sent to journalism schools across the country.
Writing a story about the subject matter was apparently difficult
and could have been approached in so many different ways.
The way the story was presented by your news editor was different,
honest and eye-opening. Everything an alternative newspaper
should be. Keep up the good work.

Get
Over It, Already
To
The Editor:
I
just finished reading your article about the Aggressive Music
Festival [“For Those About to Rock, We Condemn You,” Newsfront,
June 3]. I can understand how the Glens Falls residents feel
about the upcoming event. My mom doesn’t like that type of
music, but she’s not out protesting against it and she never
made me stop listening to it. I went to a few concerts of
this genre. I mean look at SPAC. Heavy metal, punk rock, and
other types of hardcore music have been held there, and the
neighbors have not complained about it as far as I know.
As for the people who listen to hardcore music, most of them
are fine. The only people that take the words in this type
of music seriously are those who are trying to get some kind
of attention, have no common sense, hate the world and think
life is one big depression. Occasionally you’ll get a few
ignorant people that do stupid things.
Overall, I say let this event happen. The people of Glens
Falls are only hurting the Civic Center and people who just
simply enjoy a different genre of music.
