Beth Orton

BRIT Award-winning songstress Beth Orton has been plying her signature “folktronica” for more than a decade now. She has collaborated with artists ranging from Emmylou Harris to the Chemical Brothers, and has developed a diverse following along the way—you’ll find her playing to an eclectic crowd that of folkies, punksters and club kids.

Over her seven-album recording career, Orton has gradually cast the techno beats aside for a stripped-down, organic acoustic sound. And her most recent album, Comfort of Strangers, finds her carrying the traditional alt-folk torch with grace.

According to Rolling Stone, nowadays “Orton sounds more focused than ever, channeling drawled heartache, warm come-ons and snatches of lost AM-radio hits into songs that seek out your inner lullaby.”

Beth Orton brings her cozy, eclectic folk to Mass MoCA’s Hunter Center (87 Marshall St., North Adams, Mass.) on Saturday (July 5) at 8 PM. Tickets are $22. And if you want to make a night of it, the MASS MoCA galleries are open until 7 PM, with reduced admission for ticketholders. For more info, call (413) 662-2111.
